USA improves to 4-0 in Pool A

COLIMA, Mexico, June 24, 2007.- USA maintained its perfect record in four outings in Pool A of the Women’s Pan American Cup rolling past Trinidad & Tobago in consecutive sets 25-8, 25-9, 25-5 on Sunday morning.

The Americans, who much needed a break after playing five intense sets the day before, used devastating kills that were too much for the young and inexperienced Trinidadians.

Katherine Wilkins, Maurelle Hampton and Kathleen Olsovsky had 9, 8 and 7 points respectively for USA and Darlene Ramdin had 8 for the losers.

“After playing five sets yesterday today was a good time to use my second team and continue to practice on some skills like serving and passing,” said Lang Ping, the USA coach, who also confirmed the loss of middle-blocker Tracy Stalls for the rest of the competition with a knee injury.

“It is not serious, but she will need to rest it,” she said. “That’s the reason I used the other middle, number 7 (Laura Tomes) who had not played much during the tournament.”
